YORK, Pa. – For the second day in a row, McDaniel allowed a late goal to tie the game. For the second day in a row, Julie Little (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) gave her field hockey team an overtime victory. On Sunday, it was a 5-4 win at York (Pa.) 8:28 into the first extra session.
For Little, it was the senior's third goal of the game for her first career hat trick.
Kailey Brewer scored two of the three goals for the Spartans (0-2), including the game-tying goal with 5:48 to play in regulation.
After Little's second goal of the game off her own rebound put the Green Terror (2-0) on top 4-2 at the 57:25 mark, Nancy Saylor responded just over five minutes later to draw the hosts within one.
Brewer finished a Kiersten Wetzel assist 1:25 later to even the game and eventually force overtime.
Sara Reynolds (York, Pa./Central York) slapped a pass wide of the goal to Little, who corralled the ball and finished from the left side for her team-leading fifth goal of the young season.
Kirsten Bridgers opened the scoring, deflecting in a Holly Martin hard shot for a 1-0 York lead 19:16 into the game.
Just 4:35 later, Little finished a 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper to even the score.
Brewer split the defense in the 31st minute to put the Spartans on top 2-1 at the intermission.
Lara Haab (Gladwyne, Pa./Country Day School of Sacred Heart) scored unassisted from the right side to even the game in the 47th minute, sparking a three-goal flurry.
Reynolds hit Sarah Meszler (Herkimer, N.Y./Herkimer) to give the Green Terror its first lead of the game before Little made it a two-goal lead 69 seconds later.
McDaniel finished the game with a 39-15 advantage in shots and 19-13 edge in penalty corners.
The Green Terror returns to action at Wesley on Thursday. Game time is 7 p.m.
