HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford tallied the first three goals of the game en route to a 5-2 victory over McDaniel in a key Centennial Conference (CC) game on Saturday.
Jayde Kauffman (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) led the Green Terror (8-7, 3-5 CC) with a first-half goal.
Mary Hobbs paced the 16th-ranked Fords (11-4, 6-2 CC) with two goals – both in the opening 3-0 run.
Hobbs finished a solo run just 7:31 into the game before Bridget Gibbons scored off a Sarah Waldis assist just over eight minutes later.
In another 1:18, Hobbs once again found the backboard for a 3-0 lead.
Kauffman broke up the shutout, finishing a Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) assist at the 24:50 mark. With the point, Messersmith recorded her 34th of the season and matched the program record for a single season.
Gibbson stretched the lead to 4-1 just 2:57 into the second half before an own goal on a corner made it a 4-2 game in the 45th minute.
Waldis notched her second assist, feeding Catherine Aronowitz to set the final margin in the 58th minute.
Haverford finished with a 26-16 advantage in shots and 15-9 edge in penalty corners.
The Green Terror, who needs two wins in its final two regular-season games to make the CC tournament, returns to action at Johns Hopkins on Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
