Kauffman tallies two

WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel raced out to a 2-0 lead in the game's first 9:06 en route to a 7-1 victory over Washington and Lee in non-conference field hockey action on Thursday.

Five of the goals by the Green Terror (7-5) were scored by freshmen, including two by Jayde Kauffman (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley).

On a scramble in the fourth minute, Katie Corson (Ocean View, N.J./Ocean City) tapped the ball to the left where Lara Haab (Gladwyne, Pa./Country Day School of Sacred Heart) knocked it into the top of the cage for a 1-0 lead just 3:18 in.

Nearly six minutes later, Corson sent a ball towards the goal from the right side that Kauffman tapped across the line to double the advantage.

In the 20th minute, Kauffamn collected a rebound for a 3-0 lead.

A Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) hard shot from the top bounced up off the keeper on before rolling across the line to give the hosts a 4-0 lead with 1:53 to play in the first half.

Sara Reynolds (York, Pa./Central York) knocked home a rebound of her own in the 42nd minute to stretch the lead to 5-0 in the 42nd minute.

Chelsea Stevenson broke up the shutout, collecting a long hit in by Mary Virginia Long at the 48:22 mark.

Nearly a minute later, Messersmith reestablished the five-goal lead, dribbling around a couple of defenders off a penalty corner.

Erica DeColli (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) recorded her first collegiate tally off a Messersmith pass from the right side in the 59th minute.

McDaniel finished with advantages of 25-3 in shots and 15-3 in penalty corners.

The Green Terror returns to action at home against Swarthmore on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
