WASHINGTON, D.C. – Freshman Lara Haab (Gladwyne, Pa./Country Day School of Sacred Heart) scored her first collegiate goal midway through the first overtime to lift McDaniel to a 1-0 upset victory over No. 12 Catholic in non-conference field hockey action on Sunday.
Vicci Alexander (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding) led the defense for the Green Terror (6-5) with 12 saves.
The Cardinals (8-4), who finished with a 25-17 advantage in shots, were led in goal by Megan Comunale's six saves.
McDaniel got a critical defensive save from Danielle DeColli (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) in the game's 45th minute to keep Catholic off the board in regulation and get the game to 7-on-7 overtime.
With the goalkeeper out, Haab knocked in a rebound off a Sara Reynolds (York, Pa./Central York) shot-and-save to give the Green Terror its first win over the Cardinals since 1989 with 8:36 gone in the 15-minute extra session.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Washington and Lee on Thursday. Game time is 4 p.m.
