McDaniel opens conference slate with 3-0 win at Muhlenberg
ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Three different McDaniel players scored a goal in a 3-0 win at Muhlenberg in the Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey opener for both teams on Friday.
Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake) made eight saves for her second shutout of the season and now has a 0.50 goals-against average to go with a .905 save percentage through the first four games of the year.
Kristin Dorenburg made five saves for the Mules (1-4, 0-1 CC), who were shut out for the third time this season.
Lindsay Riordon (Monkton, Md./Herford) got things going for McDaniel, taking a pass from Natalie Price (Elkton, Md./Elkton) and lofting the ball over the keeper for a 1-0 lead just 12:04 into the game.
Just 1:01 later, Katie Corson (Ocean View, N.J./Ocean City) corralled an attempted intercepted pass by the goalie that bounced off the keeper's pads and right to the senior forward, who hit the backboard for a 2-0 advantage.
Katie Jones (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) dribbled down the left side en route to a shot into the left side of the cage for the final margin in the 59th minute.
Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) had the Green Terror's first defensive save of the season. McDaniel finished the game with a 13-11 edge in shots.
The Green Terror returns to action at Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
