Back and better

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Unlike a season ago when McDaniel entered the season needing to replace a huge chunk of offense, the Green Terror enters 2011 without the same problem.

McDaniel returns all but one of its goal scorers from the 2010 squad and lost just one other player, albeit a key member of the defensive unit.

With a returning corps like that, the Green Terror is looking to build on the good things from the 2010 season and return to the Centennial Conference playoffs.

Katie Corson (Ocean View, N.J./Ocean City) will lead the attacking unit after a team high-tying seven goals last year. She paced the team with 18 points.

Then-freshman Sarah Meszler (Herkimer, N.Y./Herkimer) made her presence known immediately, matching Corson's seven goals and adding an assist to rank third on the squad with 15 points.

There's also Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) and Katie Jones (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) back to anchor things in the midfield. Messersmith finished with three goals and three assists while Jones had two goals and four helpers.

Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake) has another year of experience in the cage and enters her senior season as the likely starter.
