Fords take 5-2 decision to knock Green Terror from playoff contention
HAVERFORD, Pa. – Juliana Morgan-Trostle notched three goals and an assist to lead Haverford to a 5-2 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Saturday.
The Fords (13-4, 8-2 CC) built a 3-1 halftime lead en route to eliminating the Green Terror (7-10, 4-6 CC) from playoff contention on the final day of the regular season for the second straight season.
Hope Battista (Crofton, Md./South River) notched a pair of assists for McDaniel.
Morgan-Trostle finished an Alex Waleko feed at the 4:45 mark before Katie Corson (Ocean View, N.J./Ocean City) redirected a pass from Battista 2:17 later to tie the game.
Margaret Selsor started a three-goal run for Haverford at the 15:58 mark to seal the victory.
Morgan-Trostle stretched the lead to 3-1 at the break, scoring unassisted in the 29th minute.
Bryn Bissey tallied off a pass from Morgan-Trostle 7:18 into the second half.
Kaitlin Boerman (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) knocked home a pass from Battista to trim the lead to 4-2 just 2:19 later but Morgan-Trostle set the final margin in the 64th minute off a Mary Hobbs assist.
The Fords, the No. 3 seed in next week's CC tournament, finished with a 23-9 advantage in penalty corners and 21-10 edge in shots.
