OReilly, Willert lift Franklin & Marshall to win
Diplomats open conference slate with 4-0 victory over McDaniel
LANCASTER, Pa. – Eileen O'Reilly recorded a goal and two assists to lead No. 17 Franklin & Marshall to a 4-0 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Wednesday.
Becky Willert scored the first two goals of the game for the Diplomats (4-0, 1-0 CC) off O'Reilly assists – part of a three-goal first half en route to a victory in their first conference game of the season.
Stephanie Thomson (Glen Burnie, Md./Chesapeake) mde 13 saves for the Green Terror (2-3, 1-1 CC), who was outshot 21-11 in the game, including 12-3 in the decisive first half.
In the 17th minute, O'Reilly fed Willert for the game's first tally.
Just seven minutes later, the duo connected again to double the advantage.
Valerie Sauers made it a 3-0 game, knocking home a shot from just inside the arc to cap an 8-minute, 25-second flurry.
O'Reilly tapped home a feed from Diana Aulisa in the 58th minute to set the final margin.
McDaniel returns to action at home against Washington and Lee on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
