SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Michelle Fluty (Huntingtown, Md./Calvert) tallied two goals, including 4 minutes, 6 seconds into the first overtime to lead McDaniel to a 4-3 victory at Swarthmore in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (6-5, 3-1 CC) held a 28-4 advantage in shots but
the Garnet (4-8, 1-4 CC) converted on three of its four attempts to
force overtime.
Trailing 3-2 in the 56th minute after allowing three
straight goals, Brooke Dixon (Clayton,
Del./Smyrna) converted her third penalty stroke of the
season to even the game with 14:25 to play.
Fluty knocked home a Kristina Skinner (Westminster,
Md./Westminster) pass to give McDaniel its third overtime
victory in four attempts this season.
Kristin Mele (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill)
scored for the fifth time in the last three games at the 24:15
mark, knocking home the rebound off a Lindsey McDonald
(Germantown, Md./Damascus) shot-and-save.
Fluty extended the lead to 2-0 a minute and a half later with her
own unassisted tally.
Devon Novotnak tipped in a Joslyn
Young pass 2:08 into the second half to slice the deficit
in half.
Just 3:25 later, Abbe Miller knotted the game at
2-all with an unassisted goal before Young tipped in a
Natalie Stone feed in the 52nd minute
to give Swarthmore the lead.
The Green Terror returns to action at No. 8 Salisbury on Tuesday.
