LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall took an 18-0 lead in to the locker room en route to a 25-7 victory over McDaniel in the Centennial Conference (CC) football action on Saturday.
Drew Scott (Brick, N.J./Brick Twp.) led the Green Terror (1-5, 1-4 CC) with eight tackles.
Taalib Gerald paced the Diplomats (5-1, 4-1 CC) with 119 yards on 21 carries. He also caught three passes for 41 yards and two touchdowns out of the backfield.
Franklin & Marshall moved into the red zone on its first possession but after 12 plays, the drive stalled. The Diplomats had to settled for a 32-yard Billy Zwicharowski field goal with 7:20 to play in the opening quarter for a 3-0 lead.
A Vincent Moffett interception gave Franklin & Marshall the ball at the McDaniel 15 early in the second quarter. A swing pass on third down from the 10-yard line resulted in a Gerald touchdown. A fake on the point-after attempt resulted in a successful two-point conversion and 11-0 lead with 12:22 to play in the first half.
A 37-yard Gerald run keyed a 7-play, 63-yard drive. Zachary Bradley capped the march with a four-yard touchdown pass to Bobby Keyes for an 18-0 lead with 7:17 showing.
On a fourth down from the McDaniel 25, Gerald caught a touchdown pass from Bradley to stretch the lead to 25-0 with 8:01 to play in the third quarter.
John Chamberlin (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) broke up the shutout with 7:33 to play. After bouncing off a guy for a 19-yard gain on a screen pass, the junior powered his way home over the final six yards and three plays for a touchdown to cap a 15-play, 81-yard drive that consumed 7 minutes, 17 seconds.
Perry Stefanelli (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) led the McDaniel offense with 52 yards rushing on 10 carries.
The Green Terror returns to action at home against Dickinson on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
