CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Two members of the McDaniel football team have been named to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) South all-star team, released on Tuesday.
Jake Nichols (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) and Joe Rollins (Temple Hills, Md./Surrattsville) were both named to the first team after earning first-team All-Centennial Conference (CC) accolades.
Nichols, a senior punter, earned the first-team nod after being named to the second team last season. He finished fifth in the league, averaging 36.6 yards per kick on 64 punts. He had five punts of 50 yards or longer, including a 61-yarder against Gettysburg. Nichols forced nine fair catches and just eight touchbacks. He also dropped 28 punts inside the 20.
Rollins, a sophomore running back, was a unanimous first-team selection after leading the team and conference with 1,401 yards rushing. His 140.1 yards per game on the ground was nearly 33 yards a game better than any other back in the league. He carried the ball a CC-high 254 times and found the end zone 11 times on the ground. He had seven 100-yard rushing games, including a program record-tying 311 against Moravian on Sept. 10. Rollins also caught 12 passes out of the backfield for 63 yards and returned 11 kickoffs for 280 yards, including a program-record 90-yarder in the opener against Catholic. Rollins finished the season with a CC-best 1,744 all-purpose yards.
Rollins was also named second-team All-South by d3football.com and as a third-team All-American by Beyond Sports Network.
The Green Terror finished the season with a record of 2-8 (2-7 CC).
