McDaniel elects 2011 captains
Four to lead team in 117th campaign
WESTMINSTER, Md. – McDaniel head football coach Tim Keating announced on Monday that the team has elected its captains for the 2011 season. Two of the Green Terror's seniors and two juniors will serve in the leadership role for the upcoming 117th campaign.
Seniors Sam Cox (Towson, Md./Towson) and Tom Massucci (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) will join juniors Diego Weiner (Miami, Fla./Riverside Military Academy [Ga.]) and Kevin White (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Haverford Twp.) as team leaders in 2011.
Cox, a defensive lineman, returns as a fifth-year senior after being named to the first-team All-Centennial Conference and the third-team d3proday.com All-America teams in 2010. In 2010, he finished fifth on the team with 53 tackles, including a team-best 16.5 for loss. He also paced the squad with 7.0 sacks and four forced fumbles while breaking up two passes and blocking a kick. His tackles-for-loss total ranked tied for second in the conference while his sack total was third.
Massucci, a quarterback, finished his second season as the starting quarterback in 2010, completing 163 of 340 passes. He threw for 1,578 yards with 15 touchdown passes. He was sixth in the conference in passing yards per game and tied for fourth in touchdown passes.
Weiner, a linebacker, led the team with 74 tackles last season. Among those stops were 3.5 for loss and one sack. He also added a pass breakup.
White, a defensive back, had 50 tackles in 2010. He also made four interceptions and broke up another five passes. He also recovered a fumble and forced another.
McDaniel opens the season at home against Catholic on Sept. 3.
