Four named to All-Centennial Conference team

LANCASTER, Pa. – Four members of the McDaniel College football team have been named to the 2008 All-Centennial Conference (CC) team, announced on Monday.

Juniors Mike Weick (Holland, Pa./Penn Charter) and Travis Wenrich (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) were named to the second team while juniors Austin Herr (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) and Aaron Slaughter (Baltimore, Md./Loyola) were tabbed as honorable mentions.

Weick, a linebacker, led the conference in tackles, averaging 12.3 stops per game. His 123 tackles is tied for 10th all-time in a single season. He reached double figures in tackles in each of the season’s final seven games and eight times in 10 games this season. In those final seven games, he tallied no fewer than 13 stops, including a career-high 18 at Juniata on Oct. 4. He also had 8.5 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.

Wenrich, a defensive back, earned his second all-conference nod after being tabbed as honorable mention as a sophomore. He finished fourth on the team with 50 tackles and second in the conference with four interceptions. He also had a team-best seven pass breakups. Wenrich was also the team’s punter, averaging 33.9 yards per kick. Among his 67 punts were three that traveled 50-plus yards and 11 on which he pinned the opposition inside the 20. He had a long of 61 yards and three touchbacks. As a punt returner, he averaged 10.6 yards on 16 returns.

Herr, the team’s center, made his first appearance after anchoring a line that was part of a rushing attack that averaged 114.6 yards per game – an improvement of nearly 13 yards per game over last year.

Slaughter, a defensive back, ranked second on the team with 79 tackles. He reached double-figure tackles in five games, all over the season’s final six games. He added an interception and three pass breakups. He also recovered a team-high three fumbles.

The Green Terror finished the season 2-8 overall (1-7 CC).
