Jim Boyer Memorial Award

A major league umpire for nine years, Jim Boyer umpired the 1947 All-Star Game and the 1948 World Series. He was an athletic trainer at Western Maryland from 1950-1959 and head baseball coach from 1950-1956. He died in 1959. 

The Jim Boyer Memorial Award was established in 1962 by the Baltimore Chapter of the Alumni Association. The award is given annually to a senior baseball player who best emulates the qualities of Jim Boyer: loyalty to institution, commitment to excellence athletically and academically, humanistic qualities.

The trophy reads: 'Jim Boyer Memorial Award Awarded to the Outstanding Student Baseball Player'. It is located in the main trophy case at the Gill Center.
