COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus used a five-run fourth inning in game two to key a doubleheader sweep of McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Saturday.
The Bears (8-11, 3-3 CC) took the opener 6-4 before completing the sweep, 12-5.
Kasey Nelson (St. Pete's Beach, Fla./St. Michaels [Md.]) led the Green Terror (6-10, 0-6 CC) with five hits in the twinbill.
Travis Kozak led Ursinus with two hits in each game.
Trailing 4-3 in game one, Kozak was hit by a pitch to lead off the home seventh. With one out, Carter Usowski singled down the line to put runners at the corners.
Mike Stanzialess followed with an RBI single to tie the game.
Back-to-back walks forced in Usowski for a 5-4 lead before a sacrifice fly set the final score.
Singles from T.J. McGuire (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point), Antonio Rosanova (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) and DJ Biscoe (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) gave McDaniel a 1-0 lead with two outs in the fourth.
A Dom Fiorentino double and Jerry Scavone single evened the game in the bottom of the frame.
Colin Franke (Highland Mills, N.Y./Cornwall Central) led off the fifth with a single and scored on a two-out error to put the visitors back in front by one.
The Bears used four hits, keyed by a Stanzialess one-out triple to turn the one-run deficit into a one-run lead in the bottom of the sixth.
The Green Terror took advantage of two errors in the top of the seventh to take a one-run lead back.
Nelson and McGuire had two hits each in the opener.
In the nightcap, two walks and two hit batters keyed the five-run fifth inning for Ursinus. Stanzialess delivered the big hit with a two-run single to cap the frame.
The Bears tacked on four more runs in the fifth to open up a 12-4 lead.
Ursinus jumped out to a 2-0 lead in a bottom of the first that had two walks in the first four batters.
Nelson doubled to lead off the second and ignite a two-run frame to tie the game. Biscoe followed with a single up the middle and then scored on a Brett Anderson (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill) two-out, bases-loaded walk to tie the game.
Ursinus added one run in the bottom of the third before Franke led off the fourth with a double. An error on the ensuing sacrifice attempt put runners at the corners before an Anderson RBI groundout and Rosanova RBI knock put McDaniel in front by one.
The Green Terror scored once in the ninth on a Rosanova single, Nelson double and Evan Frees (Denver, Pa./Ephrata) RBI groundout.
Nelson had three hits in game two while Rosanova and Biscoe had two knocks.
McDaniel returns to action at Dickinson on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
