FORT MYERS, Fla. – McDaniel scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a 5-3 game en route to a 10-4 victory over Wisconsin-Platteville at the Gene Cusic Classic in non-conference baseball action on Thursday.
Joe Fiore (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Beach) led the Green Terror (4-7) with a 3-for-4 day, adding three RBIs, as part of a 14-hit attack.
George Jeseter III led the Pioneers (1-8) with two hits and two RBIs.
After a Zach Demmon triple leadoff triple and Bobby Bean one-out single staked Platteville to a 1-0 lead, Matshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) drew a walk with one out in the bottom of the frame.
A Tom Gallo (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) single and fielder's choice put runners at the corners with two outs.
After a wild pitch allowed Donald Gilbert (Severn, Md./Glen Burnie) to take second, Fiore doubled both runners home for a 2-1 lead.
A Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) single plated Fiore from third for a 3-1 advantage.
Singles from Ryan Duva and Jester trimmed the margin to 3-2 in the top of the fourth before a Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) single, fielding error and Betts RBI groundout pushed the lead back to two.
A fielding error allowed Demmon to reach to lead off the sixth before he took third on a Ryan Lehmann double and scored on a Bean sacrifice fly.
The Green Terror sent 11 men to the plate in the bottom of the sixth to break open the two-run game.
Windisch, Betts, Gallo and Fiore all had RBI singles in the inning.
Three straight singles from Tanner Galeazzi, Casey Schroeder and Jester set the final margin in the top of the seventh.
