Windisch goes 5-for-5 to forge split
ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – McDaniel broke out with 16 hits in game two to forge a doubleheader split at St. Mary's (Md.) in non-conference baseball action on Saturday.
The Green Terror (2-3) notched a 10-5 victory in the nightcap behind a 5-for-5 performance from Marty Windisch (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley), who added two RBIs and two runs scored.
The Seahawks (4-3) won game one 5-4 with a two-run double from Brandon Eady in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) led off game two with a single up the middle before Windisch followed with a single. Sivo was able to take third on an error to put runners at the corners.
A double play ball allowed Sivo to score for a 1-0 lead.
Brandon Hayward (Salisbury, Md./J.M. Bennett) reached on an error to lead off the top of the third before a Sivo single and Windisch bunt single loaded the bases.
Nick Valori (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) drew a four-pitch, bases-loaded walk to double the lead before Cameron Bahr (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) roped a one-out single to plate Sivo for a 3-0 advantage.
Hayward drew a one-out walk in the top of the fourth before Sivo single to put runners at the corners.
Windisch followed with a double to the gap, clearing the bases and chasing the St. Mary's starter.
Valori followed with a walk before a Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) RBI single and Bahr RBI groundout pushed the lead to 7-0.
Limited to just two base runners by McDaniel starter David Pisauro (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) through four innings, Kenny Beyer led off the home fifth with a single up the middle.
A groundout and Matt Holdefer double put runners at second and third.
After a wild pitch broke up the shutout, Paul Roemer walked and Zach Rowe doubled to right field to make it a 7-3 game.
The Green Terror got the three runs back in the top of the sixth. Windisch started a string of four straight singles to lead off the frame, including a pair back to the pitcher. Tom Gallo (Bernardsville, N.J./Bernards) followed with a bases-loaded walk and Chris Morris (Wynnewood, Pa./Harrington) poked a one-out single through the left side to score Bahr for a 10-3 lead.
Two-out run-producing singles from Jared Eaker and Eady set the final margin in the bottom of the seventh.
After a combined six base runners through the first four innings of game one, Drew Phillips (Sherwood, Md./St. Michael's) drew a walk and took second on a Hayward sacrifice bunt.
An error allowed Phillips to score, staking McDaniel to a 1-0 lead.
Beyer led off the bottom of the frame with a single before a hit batter put runners at first and second. A sacrifice moved both runners up for Roemer, whose sacrifice fly tied the game.
Rowe followed with a single to left for a 2-1 advantage.
Betts led off the top of the sixth with an infield single before a Bahr one-out double down the line put runners at second and third.
An error, sacrifice bunt and Beyer single evened the score in the bottom of the inning.
Gallo led off the top of the eighth with a single before moving up a base on a Fiore sacrifice and scoring on a Sivo two-out single for a 4-3 lead.
With one out in the bottom of the inning, Alex Lenovitz doubled before giving way to a pinch runner.
Eaker followed with a single before both runners scored on an Eady double to left.
Betts had two hits in the opener while Sivo added three in game two.
The Green Terror, whose scheduled game for Monday at Penn State-Harrisburg has been postponed, will attempt to open the home schedule against Catholic on Thursday. Game time is 3 p.m.
