Jones named ABCA all-region
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Zach Jones (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), a senior on the McDaniel baseball team, was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Mid-Atlantic Region second team, released on Monday.
It was the second all-region honors he earned after being named to the third team by d3baseball.com earlier in the day.
Jones, a pitcher, earns his first all-region nod after becoming just the sixth Green Terror player to earn first-team All-Centennial Conference (CC) honors. He led the team with a 2.44 earned-run average, which ranked sixth in the conference. He finished the season with a 10-1 record and was the only CC hurler to reach double-digit wins this season. He was also the first player in program history to reach 10 wins in a season. He finished the season with 83 strikeouts, which was second in the CC, against just 18 walks in 77 1/3 innings. Jones made 12 starts with five complete games and three shutouts. He finished his career with a program-record 221 strikeouts in his career and threw a no-hitter on Mar. 9.
The Green Terror finished the season 22-16 overall (10-8 CC) and advanced to the title game of the ECAC South tournament.
