GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a1-all deadlock and defeat McDaniel 3-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Tuesday.
Joe Fiore (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Beach) and Pat Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney) recorded two hits apiece to lead the Green Terror (18-15, 7-8 CC), who will need three wins over the weekend to keep its diminishing conference playoff hopes alive.
Tommy LeNoir and Pat Cody led the Bullets (25-10, 11-4 CC) with two hits and an RBI each.
Al Posch led off the sixth with a single before scoring on a LeNoir double to left field one batter later. A throwing error allowed LeNoir to take third.
Cody followed with a single to plate LeNoir for the 3-1 lead.
Luke Lawrence retired the final nine hitters he faced in order to pick up the complete-game win.
With one out in the second inning, Marshall Betts (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) singled to right field before Christopher reached on a bunt single to put runners at first and second.
A passed ball moved both runners up before Fiore singled down the line to score Betts for a 1-0 lead.
Patrick O'Grady reached on an infield single in the bottom of the fourth before Cam MacDonald singled to put two on with no outs.
An Austin Davis sacrifice bunt and Posch sacrifice fly knotted the game.
McDaniel concludes the home-and-home series with Gettysburg at home on Friday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
