STEVENSON, Md. – Stevenson plated three runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead en route to an 8-0 victory over McDaniel in non-conference baseball action on Thursday.
Sean Sivo (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) went 2-for-4 to lead the Green Terror (0-2), who was limited to just six hits on the day.
Heath Johnson went 2-for-3 for the Mustangs (3-1) with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.
Johnson led off the home third with a walk before a Bret Schilling walk put runners at first and second.
A Chris DeFeo sacrifice moved the runners to second and third before a Tom Goulian sacrifice fly scored Johnson for a 1-0 lead.
Troy Miller led off the fourth with a single before scoring on a Matt Bratter single two batters later.
A Davis Grove double stretched the lead to 3-0 before Johnson singled him home for a 4-0 lead.
A Goulian single followed by a sacrifice bunt and Miller RBI groundout pushed the lead to 5-0 in the fifth.
A Morris single following by a fielding error opened the door for a three-run eighth.
Scott Merkel and Johnson each had doubles in the frame.
Andrew Hofmeister (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) led off the eighth inning with a double followed by a Sivo single and Tyler Jackow (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) fielder's choice to put runners at the corners with one out. However, Ryan Kellough got back-to-back strikeouts to keep the shutout in tact.
McDaniel returns to action in a doubleheader at St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday. The first game begins at 12 p.m.
