LANCASTER, Pa. – Three members of the McDaniel baseball team have been named to the All-Centennial Conference (CC) team, released on Wednesday.
James Chiorello (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) and Patrick Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney) earned second-team honors while Zach Jones (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) was tabbed as an honorable mention.
Chiorello, a sophomore pitcher, ranks third in the conference with a 2.36 ERA. He leads the team with 57 strikeouts and has posted a 6-3 record in his 15 appearances, which included 10 starts. He has thrown five complete games with a pair of shutouts and was part of one other combined shutout. Chiorello also has notched three saves. He has walked just 14 batters and allowed 19 earned runs in 72 1/3 innings of work.
Christopher, a junior outfielder, moved up the second team after being tabbed as an honorable mention in 2011. Christopher leads the team with a .368 batting average, starting 32 of the 33 games in which he has played. He also paces the team with 46 hits that includes team highs of 10 doubles and four triples for a .512 slugging percentage. He is second on the team with 25 runs scored and fourth with 22 RBIs. He has only struck out nine times in 148 plate appearances.
Jones, a junior pitcher, is second among starting pitchers with a 3.09 earned-run average. He ranks second on the squad with 56 strikeouts in his 64 innings of work. He is 4-3 in his 10 starts, going the distance three times.
The Green Terror (24-12, 11-7 CC) earned its first CC postseason berth since 2003 and will find out on Monday if it has qualified for the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Tournament, which plays first-round games on Wednesday, May 16.
