GRANTHAM, Pa. – McDaniel's four starting pitchers combined to shutout Messiah and the offense produced three runs in the sixth inning for a 3-0 non-conference baseball victory on Wednesday.
James Chiorello (East Windsor, N.J./Lawrenceville Prep) had two hits and pitched the ninth inning to record his third save of the season for the Green Terror (20-10), who reached the 20-win mark for the first time in program history. Jimmy Najera (Fort Washington, Md./DeMatha) added two hits and an RBI.
Wes Hollenbach, Jacob Sprengle and John Brubaker each recorded single hits for the Falcons (15-21), who were limited to just three hits and four base runners all day.
Chiorello led off the sixth inning with a double to center field before scoring on a Mike Freeman (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) single one batter later to break the scoreless deadlock.
Najera followed with a double of his own to plate Freeman for a 2-0 advantage.
Two-out singles from Dan French (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown) and Patrick Christopher (Union Beach, N.J./St. John Vianney) scored Najera for the 3-0 lead.
McDaniel finished the game with nine hits and left 11 runners on base.
Zach Jones (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) pitched the first three innings with five strikeouts. Andrew Monger (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) threw the next three with two strikeouts to earn the win. Danny Snight (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's College) pithed the seventh and eighth innings while Chiorello had two strikeouts in the ninth.
Jones, Monger and Snight allowed one hit each.
The Green Terror returns to action at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 12:30 p.m.
