Goodyear named head equipment manager

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Seth Goodyear has been named McDaniel College’s head equipment manager, announced by Director of Athletics Paul Moyer on Friday.

“As we conducted this search, Seth quickly rose to the top of our list,” Moyer said. “He has strong experience from his time at Penn State-Harrisburg and is someone we are confident in bringing into our equipment and facilities operations. He has a strong knowledge in the industry and we are excited about what he is going to be able to bring to our equipment room and elevating our operation.”

Goodyear has spent the last two years as the assistant equipment manager and event staff manager at Penn State-Harrisburg, where he graduated in May 2012.

In his position, he assisted in all equipment room operations and oversaw the setup of and student staff for all home contests. He was also responsible for greeting visiting teams and officials upon their arrival.

As an undergraduate, he worked as a member of Penn State-Harrisburg’s game day event staff. He also worked as a student assistant in the intramural office, where he was not only responsible for setup and oversight but also had scheduling responsibilities of officials.

Goodyear also has experience in facility maintenance, working as a summer maintenance assistant at South Middletown School District. Part of his duties there included the setup and lining of various athletic fields.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity,” Goodyear said. “I can’t wait for things to get started. There’s going to be a lot of things to do but there’s also a lot of great things on the horizon here.”

As head equipment manager, Goodyear will be responsible for the management of all athletic equipment and uniforms for 24 varsity sports; the operation of the equipment room and its staff; practice, competition and event setup; and managing equipment for the Department of Exercise Science. He will also be responsible for field maintenance and preparation and working with grounds to assure proper preparation of outdoor athletic facilities.

“We’re very excited about Seth joining our staff,” Phil Smith, director of athletics facilities, added. “I’m looking forward to the energy he’s bringing to our athletic department and our athletes. We had a strong pool of candidates but Seth’s experience, work ethic and personal fit made him the perfect choice.”

Goodyear takes over his full-time role immediately.
