Three earn gold medals
Justin Allen, Brad Brooks and Ryan O'Boyle earns the male athletes of the week honors after winning conference championships over the weekend.
Allen and Brooks both earned gold medals at the Centennial Conference Swimming Championship over the weekend while O'Boyle earned the 133 title at the Centennial Conference Wrestling Championship. Allen took the championship in the 100 breaststroke while Brooks won the 500 and 1650 freestyle.
Brooks opened his second championship with a victory in the 500 free on Friday. He turned in a time of 4:32.35 in the prelims before bettering that mark in the finals, finishing with a championship-meet record time of 4:30.70. Both were NCAA B-Cut times.
On Sunday, it was the 1650 to open the night session for Brooks. He bettered his 2013 championship time by nearly two seconds and won the event by more than 50 yards, finishing with an NCAA B-Cut time of 15:44.46.
Brooks also took bronze in the 200 free on Saturday. After establishing a new program record in the prelims to qualify third (1:41.38), he lowered it even more in the finals with a time of 1:41.22.
After qualifying third in the prelims on Saturday with a time of 59.11, Allen broke the program record by a full second in the 100 breaststroke finals. He turned in a time of 57.92 to win by 0.19 seconds.
O'Boyle led a contingent of seven placewinners for the Green Terror. The top seed, O'Boyle downed Merchant Marine's Isaac Hammond in the first round midway through the final period before topping Sean Billings (NYU) late in the first period to advance to the title tilt. In the championship bout, O'Boyle made it 3-for-3 with falls, downing second-seeded Ray Yagloski (Johns Hopkins) in 2:25.
